The events leading to a court's intervention are sometimes a complex web of past
abuse, learned inappropriate behaviors, substance addiction or mental illness.
In such cases, it may be court ordered that the best course of action is therapeutic
visitation. This option allows the non-custodial parent access to their child,
and assists in providing a safe environment for children and also encourages
the teaching of proper parenting skills.
All therapeutic visitation sessions offered by Child Access Services
are facilitated by licensed and or postgraduate mental health practitioners
as required by the New York State Education Department. Since
we provide trained, therapeutic professionals, assessments are
submitted to the court showing the progress of therapeutic visitations
in addition to the summary reports that are periodically submitted.
Therapeutic visitations help parents by:
- Providing discipline and behavior management techniques by
the case adviser
- Allowing for discussions and therapeutic talks with case adviser
- Instructing adults on how to meet the individual needs of their
child
Therapeutic visitations help children by:
- Offering safe and productive visits with their parent
- Helping children to appropriately express their feelings
- Presenting a relaxed, non-threatening situation for the child
to look forward to
- Building trust in parents and adults
Child Access Services provides:
- Detailed reporting
- The guidance of licensed and or postgraduate mental health
practitioners
- Structured meetings designed to put all participants at ease
Therapeutic visitation is an interactive way to work with a parent
toward the goal of reunification.
