When
a parent cannot have (or is not allowed) personal access to their
child, they may still have contact using monitored telephone
sessions. These sessions allow a parent to make connections with
their child during such circumstances as incarceration and personal
visitation restrictions. Should a court allow monitored telephone
visitation, Child Access Services will provide an organized plan
that a parent can follow, and supervise each session.
Under Child Access Services' experienced supervision, all calls
are monitored and recorded. Monitoring helps assure the safety
of the child during the conversation and the recording provides
an exact account of the session. Each call will be made at a planned
time, creating a routine beneficial to both parent and child. To
provide increased confidentiality and avoid uncomfortable spousal
interactions, the monitor will connect each phone call.
Telephone monitored visitations help parents by:
- Providing appropriate access to their children even during
times of incarceration or restraint
- Creating an environment and routine that helps model appropriate
parental behavior
Telephone monitored visitations help children by:
- Allowing constructive access to non-custodial parent in situations
that prevent personal meetings
- Insuring their safety through the presence of an experienced
monitor
Child Access Services will:
- Dial each phone call and maintain all confidential personal
information
- Listen in and record each conversation, but allow for a free
and healthy interaction between parent and child
- Terminate the call should the conversation become inappropriate
- Provide a record of the conversation when required
